Scotland

SNIPEF, as part of Building Services Engineering Skills Ltd, has been contracted by Skills Development Scotland to carry out a periodic review of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Plumbing and Heating across the UK.  SNIPEF will work with UK partners and engage with employers/training providers, share the consultation documentation and receive and deal with all feedback. This work will conclude with a revised set of NOS. Thereafter the next step will be to review the qualifications and apprenticeship frameworks that come from the revised NOS.

As an employer/training provider, you are invited to review the current NOS and advise whether you consider these still to be fit for purpose (FFP) or whether any improvements/amendments are needed.  It is important that you input into this review.

The review includes the following NOS:

Reference NOS Title
SUMBSE01 Apply health and safety and environmental legislation in the building services engineering sector
SUMBSE02 Establish and maintain relationships in the building services engineering sector
SUMBSE03 Coordinate a work site in the building services engineering sector
SUMBSE04 Perform electrical work on mechanical building services systems
SUMPH04 Install and test domestic plumbing and heating systems
SUMPH05 Service and maintain domestic plumbing and heating systems
SUMPH06 Inspect and pre-commission domestic plumbing and heating systems
SUMPH07 Commission domestic plumbing and heating systems
SUMPH08 Decommission domestic plumbing and heating systems
SUMPH09 Install sheet weathering protection

What we are asking you to do

We are asking you to do two things:

  1. Download and read through the above NOS specifications
  2. Provide feedback on the NOS, through the online survey here. First, tell us a little bit about yourself and your organisation (just the basics), then tell us whether the current NOS are fit for purpose (FFP) or could be improved/amended. If you think they could be improved/amended, let us know what the improvement/amendment should be. There is also space for you to provide any further comment (or questions) not accommodated elsewhere.

Your completed consultation will be sent to SNIPEF to collate the feedback.

Timescales

We can accept feedback on either the electronic form or paper form until noon on Wednesday 28 November 2018.

If you require any further information or anything is not clear, please contact Duncan Wilson on duncan.wilson@snipef.org or 0131 556 0600.
